Connecticut Solar Incentives, Rebates and Grants (2026)
Federal Tax Credit Update
The 30% federal residential clean energy credit (Section 25D) ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. Homeowners who buy solar in 2026 can no longer claim it on their own taxes. Some third-party ownership programs (like a Propel lease) can still use commercial credits and pass part of that value to you as a discount.
State Programs
- Residential Renewable Energy Solutions (RRES): Eversource and UI customers choose a tariff for new solar, locked in for 20 years. Buy-All: sell all the power you produce (Eversource lists $0.3289 per kWh for 2026 applications). Netting: power your home first and get bill credits at the retail rate for the extra; 2026 netting projects pay a Solar Energy Adjustment charge on production. https://www.eversource.com/residential/save-money-energy/clean-energy-options/solar-energy/learn-about-solar/rres-solar-incentives
- Energy Storage Solutions: incentives for home batteries. For applications on or after April 1, 2026, standard homes get a $30/kWh enrollment incentive ($130/kWh in grid-edge areas) plus performance payments of $300/kW per year for 10 years, with higher rates for underserved and low-income customers. https://energystoragect.com
- Sales tax exemption: residential solar equipment and installation are generally exempt from Connecticut sales tax. Ask us or a tax professional for details.
- Property tax exemption: solar on a 1 to 4 family home is exempt from property tax if it is sized to no more than your annual usage, including leased systems. File with your town assessor by November 1. https://www.cga.ct.gov/2023/rpt/pdf/2023-R-0214.pdf
